Last week my friend, Kim, asked if I could sew her daughter an Annie dress for her 5th Birthday.
It’s not perfect. Among other things, it’s pretty much huge on this sweet little “Annie”. But overall I think it turned out well.
I used the same idea as the Josie Jacket and also a vintage robe pattern I have, tweaking both until I felt like it was about right. It was meant to be a surprise, so I tried to use the resources I had readily available to work the fit. But that really didn’t go over so well.
In fact, let’s just blame any and all issues on the lack of cooperation of my “dress form”.
But anyway, check off one of my three projects from last week. I actually got two things completed, and a good start on the third. So it was a productive week, in spite of my lack of sharing it with you all. And in making this dress, I got in some good practice for the hem lessons that I should be sharing soon. Also, I learned that polyester+piping=super stiff. I think Kim said it best, “it kind of seems to hang evenly around her middle, sort of like a hoop.” And the sleeves also can completely stand up on their own, too. Not really what I was going for, but considering the dress ended up about three sizes wider than needed, it’s a good thing that it didn’t need her little body to fill it out, I guess, right?
