The Book says, “A shawl collar is cut in one piece as part of the front garment.”
This lesson is based off a jacket design, apparently, and used the following pieces:
And Jacket Back
Transfer all markings onto pattern pieces
And finish any darts, pleating, etc. I did fisheye darts because that’s what the book had on theirs.
At this point, attach interfacing, if used. I didn’t use since I was just practicing, so no pics of that.
Start with the collar facing. Right sides together, pin and sew the back seam together.
Press seam open
Do the same on the jacket front. Remember, the front includes the collar section. So you are going to be sewing the back of that collar section together
Now pin the front to the back at the shoulder seams, keeping the back collar area unsewn
Now you’re going to pin and sew that back collar area of the front piece to the back piece
Pin the facing piece to the front pieces, matching raw edges and lining things up
Sew all along from one end to the other, and also get the lapel and outer edges
Turn the facing to the inside, press, topstitch. Or the Book says understitch, but you get the idea, right?
Finish the jacket or whatever because your shawl collar is ready to rock
