This week went by so fast for me. It seriously feels like it should just be Tuesday, not Friday. Not that I’m complaining, really, I mean who doesn’t love a weekend? But I do wish I had a bit more crossed off my to-do list. Since I don’t really have much of anything of mine to share, I thought it was probably about time to show what some of you all have been up to. A few of you have made the Not Just Another Pretty Purse and seeing yours have made me want to make another. Especially since I ended up giving my sister the one I made. She had a birthday, I had a new bag, the timing was right…for her.
Mama Lusco has some amazing talent. When she emailed me that she made the Not Just Another Pretty Purse, I was completely flattered. And check out her fabric choice:
I completely love it. And then she went and made matching pouches! Seriously so cute. She also made a few really awesome changes, that I think make the bag much better. She shortened the strap to 34 inches and used interfacing in it for stability. She also sewed the straps into the lining and the shell, before completing the bag, so it’s more finished looking. Lastly, she sewed the flap to the top of the back, enclosing the raw edge as the lining and outer fabrics were sewn together:
She’s so smart. The Littlest Crafter found some amazing fabric for her purse. I love embroidered, detailed fabric. She opted for two simple pockets inside, rather than a zippered pocket. K is fairly new to sewing and she did an amazing job. She also has some other really fun projects on her blog that she’s shared.
And then there is Bella Kate’s version. Um, did you see that flower?
She made it. I want one. She does point out one thing that kind of bothered me about the pattern, too, the flap is a little short. It’s just an envelope-type flap, so it would be easy to extend. I left it as it was because I wanted to make the bag out of the exact amount of fabric that I had purchased, and well, that’s as large a flap as the yardage I had would allow for. But it’s definitely something to keep in mind if you do want to make this bag. And if you do make something based off an idea I’ve shared, please let me know. I know, I’m vain, but it really is the best thing in the world to have others think enough of what you’ve come up with to take the time and materials and make their own version of it. And even more than gratifying, it’s inspiring and motivating to keep creating. It makes this huge internet/craft/sewing world seem just a little bit smaller and personal.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
