So the other day I was procrastinating laundry by going through everything I’ve blogged so far this year, and pinning the things I’ve made (my “I Made This 2013” board HERE). Organizing everything into one place like that is always gratifying. I counted 47 items sewn and blogged, 43 of which were clothing for myself and my children! Unless I’m forgetting something, I’ve also made another nine clothing items not blogged. 56 things sewn this year!! Not too bad for not quite halfway through 2013. On my sewing table right now are another two items I’ll hopefully finish today. And then there are the stacks of patterns and sketches I have lined up for the weeks to come.
As you can imagine, I’ve been going through a lot of fabric the past few months. A lot. What better way to replenish the stash than by dedicating an entire weekend to nothing bur fabric shopping? I get to do just that, with a whole group of friends and fellow creative bloggers this week for
The amazing Andrea of Train to Crazy and Justine from Sew Country Chick have done so much work for this. It’s a pilot year for what will, hopefully, become an annual party of fabric shopping, friendship building, and just general all-around awesomeness. I’m so excited to get to participate, I have been counting down the days for months now.
Andrea and Justine have lined up awesome sponsors that we’ll be visiting and shopping:
I have wanted to go to Michael Levine every since first hearing about them. Their online store, lowpricefabric.com has awesome selection and great pricing. If their main store and their Loft are anything like the online store, I’m going to be in heaven! I’ve heard you buy fabric by the pound! BY THE POUND!! I’m taking a small carry-on for my luggage this weekend, and a huge, empty duffle bag to load with fabric amazingness BY THE POUND! So excited. Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores is also sponsoring Fabric Weekend 2013. I shop Jo-Ann at least once a week here at home, but even in the fabric district of LA, I know they’ll have exactly what I need for all my sewing staples. I love Jo-Ann, and I love that they make good quality fabrics and supplies available to the masses. Without Jo-Ann, I would never have made it to 56 things sewn this year. So thank you, Jo-Ann!
And then there’s Mood Fabrics. THE Mood. Like, from Project Runway. I know! I’m giddy over this. I mainly sew clothing, so I cannot wait to shop their awesome apparel fabrics. And I’m totally going to yell “Thank you, Mood” as I leave, like the cool kids.
Jess from The Sewing Rabbit has worked her magic and organized a special dinner for us, as part of her Girl’s Night Out program. So basically I’m about to go have the.best.weekend.ever! I leave tomorrow and will be Instagramming up a storm (you can find me as @sewastraightline). The official hashtag for the weekend is #fabricweekend2013, if you want to follow along with all the fabric-shopping fun!
And now I need to go finish up numbers 57 and 58 of 2013’s Items Sewn and pack, so I can fly out tomorrow for Fabric Weekend 2013! WOO!
