We’re already on Week Three of Summer Vacation around here. Crazy. I love Summer Vacation. I love having my kids home with me all day, and I always try to come up with fun and enriching activities for us to do together all summer long. When Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores contacted me to participate in their Summer of Jo-Ann “Cape Discovery” promotion, I was seriously giddy. This is stuff I do with my kids anyway!
I gathered my boys, and together we browsed the Cape Discovery online catalog. There are more than 72 featured crafts to browse and gain ideas from in the catalog, but we finally narrowed things down to the Works of Ahhh Wood Craft Kit. My boys are always collecting treasures while we’re out and about. They loved the idea of their own, personalized treasure boxes. So we loaded up in the car and headed to our local Jo-Ann to stock up on supplies for summer fun. I let each of them have their own basket and set them loose in the Kids’ Crafts aisle.
We had printed off the supply list from the website, but mostly I just let the boys grab whatever they thought would work best. I wanted this to be their project. We came home with paints, stick-on jewels, Model Magic clay, glitter and, of course, unfinished wooden boxes.
There are project ideas in the Cape Discovery catalog for activities to do with Model Magic, but the boys used ours to make treasures to fill the boxes.
They mixed the Model Magic with glitter (really cool) and paint (really messy). A little of the clay goes a long way, and even after making treasures, we still have lots of Model Magic left over for more creativity this summer.
I am at my local Jo-Ann at least once a week with my own sewing projects. It sure does make the trip with four kids that much easier when they also get to pick out a fun activity to explore their own creativity. I’m excited to do more activities from Cape Discovery with my kids this summer. Want to get in on the summer fun? Sign up for Jo-Ann coupons HERE, and receive a 20% off coupon right off!
