A few months ago Stacey over at Boy, Oh Boy!, Oh Boy! crafts came up with a pretty awesome idea. She suggested a bunch of us get on Spoonflower, design our own fabric, then swap with each other and make awesome stuff with each others’ awesome designs. Awesome, right?!
I got super lucky and my swap partner was Stacey herself. I love Stacey. She’s smart and funny, and she’s a mom of three boys. We’re kinda meant for each other, Stacey and me. Plus, she has some pretty fun fabric ideas. Here are some of Stacey’s designs I had to choose from:
I love the animal faces. LOVE!
I kept going back and forth between the the Hippos, Elephants and Frogs. But green with grey is my favorite color combination, so Hippos it was. Now I just had to decide what to make. I was in the middle of drafting and playing around with the Ruched Romper Pattern, and wanted to try a hack I’d come up with using wovens. So I ordered some cotton Hippos and paired it with grey linen. The end result?
I’ll be sharing more on the pattern hack itself later. But what I made Ivy was a pleated top, with the Hippos as the main fabric and the linen accenting.
Then matched the top with a little pair of linen shorts, with the Hippos at the cuffs and back pocket.
I love the goofy hippo faces peaking out all over. And the green is this fabulous bright green. I used some vintage buttons to highlight it just a bit more on the pocket and the closure at the back of the top.
Want to own your very own Hippos? Or Elephants, Piggies, Monkeys, Frogs and more? Guess what! You can! Stacey’s designs are for sale over at Spoonflower. Her designer name is staceyoverseas (or you can just click that and it should take you to her design page)
