Ivy turned two last week. I woke up early the morning of her birthday, thinking of what our plans for the day were. I wanted to go out and buy her some balloons, since she always wants some when we pass them at the store and I knew she’d love a whole bunch for herself. But then I looked outside and we were in a full-on winter storm. A balloon bouquet just didn’t seem worth the risk of tackling unplowed roads. So instead, I decided to make her a balloon she could wear. Go To Patterns released this Belinda Dress (affiliate link) pattern a few weeks ago. I love the puffy sleeves and the gathered hemline that comes together in a ballooning skirt. So cute! Can’t beat PDF patterns for instant gratification. I had the Belinda pattern purchased, printed and assembled before the older kids were off to school. The cutting and sewing went almost as quickly, and by mid-morning Ivy had a birthday dress. I used this super-soft panda patterned sweatshirt knit from Girl Charlee and solid black knit and rib knit for the hem, neck, cuffs and pockets. Yep, it has pockets. Probably Ivy’s favorite part. And they’re super fun, too, because the entire front skirt is the pocket, kangaroo-pocket-style. So if in a pinch, Ivy could totally be her own diaper bag, and we could shove all sorts of things in this dress!
After the dress, I whipped up a pair of polka-dotted leggings (also Go To Patterns—affiliate link-my favorite leggings pattern) and threw on some leather mary janes I had made using Delia Creates’ pattern a few weeks ago. And Ivy was set for her snowed-in birthday.
I love two. Ivy is my latest talker, by far, but her vocabulary is slowly increasing and it is so fun to hear her thoughts and perspective.
She is so playful and curious right now, loves to be silly, and her imagination and creativity are already shining through. We are frequently treated to her being a dog, cat or dinosaur, and pretty much any flat surface from two feet down is covered in her artwork. She is stubborn and opinionated, ruling the house with her demands. But when she is sweet, which is often, she is the sweetest. She cuddles and loves, giving out kisses and hugs with reckless abandon. We love our Ivy. Happy birthday, baby girl!
