I cannot believe it’s already Back-To-School time! I’ve been in a bit of denial over it, actually. But whether I want to acknowledge it or not, the kids are about to head back (or maybe yours already have?) and I’ve got the *perfect* sewing project for you today, Gingercake Pattern’s Love Your Lunch Box.
The Love Your Lunch Box is just one of three different lunch bag patterns offered by Gingercake Patterns. And all of them are on sale now through August 9th!
I sewed up the Love Your Lunchbox last week, and I was super impressed. The pattern is clear and easy to follow, and the result is a fantastic, professionally-finished bag. It has enclosed seams, is fully lined, and even has little side pockets.
The dimensions are similar to lunch bags I’ve purchased from GAP and Lands End. The Love Your Lunch Box holds a full-sized lunch, easily. Gingercakes also offers a free tutorial on increasing the size of your Love Your Lunchbox HERE, if you need even more room (and a zippered pocket!) The pattern also gives other suggestions, like increasing dimensions and making a messenger bag.
I stocked Ivy’s with some of her favorite things to eat, and we headed out for a picnic.
I didn’t even have to prompt this grin. The girl *loves* her Love Your Lunch Box. So much. In fact, she has taken it with her on a road trip and into pretty much every store and on every errand we have run in the last week. When it isn’t storing snacks, it’s chocked full of her most prized toys and treasures.
I had originally planned on making a lunch bag for my soon-to-be First Grader, who will be needing a lunch box for the first time this school year. But when I told him my plans, he heaved a heavy sigh and said, “Sorry, mom, but can I just have one you buy?!” Whatever. So I sewed one up for myself, and then Ivy saw it and declared it hers. And then the First-Grader saw the finished bag and started to pout. I asked him what was up, and he whined, “Man! I totally made the wrong choice. That bag is awesome!” It is awesome. So awesome, I may just relent and make one for his little ungrateful self!
I used some PUL to make the snack bag. It just so happens that Ivy has a few cloth diapers made out of the exact same color of PUL. When she first saw the bag, she asked, “This my diaper?” So I opened the bag and showed her the pretzels inside. The look on her face was hilarious, and then she just could not stop giggling, “Pretzels in my diaper!” Hopefully this doesn’t lead to much confusion later.
The bag fabric is some laminated cotton I had left over from the Sophia Carry All I made almost two years ago. So now Ivy and I have matching bags!
All the lunch bags at Gingercake Patterns are on sale through this week, so grab one or three fast! And why not try your luck at winning one?
I was given the Love Your Lunch Box pattern. How fantastic is that?! Thanks, Gingercake Patterns!
