I recently partnered up with MyFabricDesigns.com, a fantastic custom-print fabric company.
There are hundreds of fabric designs to choose from, or you can design your own. After you pick your design, you pick what type of fabric on which to have the design printed. There are a ton of textile choices, including many organic options.
For my first order, I stuck to already existing designs, and used my kids as my inspiration for picking things out. I knew Jonas, my sports-loving kid, would think this Infinite Play design, which looks like a football playbook, would rock. I ordered a yard in Organic Cotton Jacquard and whipped him up a pair of Chillax Pants from Ottobre 1/2013 (#26)
He has informed me they are his most favorite pants ever and he can’t believe how good he looks in them. I love how into the photoshoots my kids get when they *really* love the clothes I’ve made them.
I made this same pattern for my oldest a few years ago (see here) and they were loved by him, and then my second son, to the point of falling apart. It’s just a basic lounge pant, with a drop crotch, skinny legs, and drawstring waist. I added cuffs to the bottom of this pair, to tie in the green ribbing and contrast stitching from the top of the pants.
The Organic Cotton Jacquard is perfect for sportwear and loungewear. It is crazy soft, with a great stretch. The print did fade a bit. I ordered three prints on three different fabric types at the same time. This print was the only significant fade. I’m guessing because it was so much solid black. I actually prefer the charcoal grey it faded to for this print, since it looks more like a chalkboard and fits the theme of the print better. But, I’m going to order another print on this same type of fabric and test it to see if it was the solid black that made the fading so bad, or if this type of fabric is just more prone to fade.
The jacquard is fabulous to sew with, though. The drape and weight is perfect and there was no rolling. It sewed up so easy. Also, the fabric is thick enough that skin doesn’t show through. I am thinking a pair of leggings for me out of this stuff next. Just need to narrow down the print.
Ivy wanted to be in the photos so badly. She kept slowly creeping in on him. It was hilarious and only mildly annoying. She would be out of the shot, behind me, I’d put the camera up to my eye, and suddenly she was there.
Jonas wore these pants for 36 hours straight the first time. I love the way they look and feel. I say we have a success. I can’t wait to show you what else I made with the MyFabricDesigns.com fabrics I ordered. You can grab the Infinite Play print HERE
