Sometimes you wake up just needing to make something. Sometimes that thing is a dinosaur-print tee shirt for yourself. So then you make that dinosaur-print tee shirt, wear it, and have your 10 year old take pictures of some leaves behind you while you wear the dinosaur-print tee shirt, slightly out of focus, in the foreground.
The fabric is another MyFabricDesigns.com print. Vintage Dinos by Bohobear. I loved this print as soon as I saw it. I don’t usually do novelty prints for myself. I’m not completely opposed to them, but I don’t gravitate towards them, either. But something about the vintage, old school text bookyness of this print called to me. I ordered it in slub knit. MyFabricDesigns.com’s slub knit is perfect for feminine tee shirts. It has a good stretch, but not so much that it curls while you’re working with it. The drape is greatt, and the texture fun. It also washes fantastic with no fading that I can tell. I’ve been cutting swatches off of my yardage MyFabricDesigns.com as it arrives and before washing, to compare to the rest of the fabric as it washes and wears. So far, only the organic cottons have had any fading. Keep in mind, however, that I don’t take special care with my handmades. I wash with regular laundry, and dry on hot. Not recommended, but laundry is one of my least favorite chores and I get a bit lazy with it. Anyway, the slub knit has worn and washed very well. As for the sheerness, I layer a black tank under my dino tee and all is well.
I used the Plantain Tee pattern by Deer & Doe. It’s a free download, which is a fantastic price for a fabulous pattern. I first made this pattern a couple of years ago, in a loose sweater knit seen HERE . I loved that sweater, and wore it until it was wearing out, and then made it into an Ugly Christmas Sweater by adding garland and festive elves and flashing lights, as one does to worn out sweaters. And then I wore it to run a novelty-themed 5k, as one does in the winter months. It’s still in my closet, if anyone wants to invite me to run an Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K again. I like to be prepared. So, I’ve had a good run (ha) with the Plantain, and figured it was time to use it again.
I lengthened the body of the tee by about 4 inches, but stuck to pattern other than that. The fit is so good on this tee. I love the scooped neck, and the short sleeves hit at the exact right spot. This Vintage Dino tee has worked its way into my regular wardrobe rotation this summer. Feminine and fun, I think it accents these lovely leaves and abandoned pallets quite nicely.
