Day Two of Ivy’s Kindergarten Fashion Show features her favorite outfit that I made, a cat-faced tunic and some cropped stripe leggings.
She was so very, very specific about this outfit. She wanted a giant cat face, comfy pants, and a tail in the back. She loves bright colors, so I made sure to feature neons and brights. Really, this outfit is about as “Ivy” as I could get it.
We started with #17 pattern from Ottobre 4/2017. The tunic pattern features a bear face. I sketched out a few cat faces for Ivy to choose from, instead, and she decided on this one.
I traced the face onto the fabric with a pencil, lightly. And then I just used a satin stitch, lowering my feed dogs, and free-stitched the thing. When I was checking stitches, before working on the real face, I had the turquois blue as my main thread, with the pink in the bobbin. I loved how the pink ended up pulling through and highlighting the turquois, so I kept it going for the “real” stitching.
I don’t love how the ears turned out. I got lazy and didn’t spend the time making them nicely, as I should have.
But the tail turned out pretty great.
Honestly, I was really worried about the tunic. I didn’t like the thing when I finished it. Like, at all. But then Ivy put it on. And I don’t know if it was her enthusiasm for it, or just the fact that she is so darn cute, but now I really do like the tunic!
Wonky ears and all.
Plus, it has pockets.
How could I ever truly dislike such clever pockets?
The leggings are another Ottobre (get used to it 😉 ), pattern # 22 from 1/2017. I cropped the pattern because Ivy requested shorts to wear under the tunic.
And of course, I was able to put my Dutch Label Shop labels on the clothing. I just love how the labels look on things I’ve made. It really does just make the pride of creating something that much more special
Ivy has decided this will be her First Day of School outfit, she loves it so much. And that makes me feel pretty great.
